Nature of Engagement: UPSC has published a vacancy circular (dated 31 August, uploaded 03 September) inviting applications from retired Central Government officers or eligible Armed Forces ex-servicemen for engagement as Consultants at the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) level on a contract basis. This is consultancy, not regular UPSC direct recruitment.

Eligibility & Terms of Engagement
- Target Candidates: Officers retired from Central Government Ministries / Departments / Attached or Subordinate offices at the level of ASO or equivalent, or eligible Armed Forces ex-servicemen holding corresponding rank.
- Remuneration: Fixed monthly remuneration as per Department of Expenditure (DoE) guidelines (Last Pay Drawn minus Pension plus admissible allowances).
- Tenure: Initially for a period of one year, extendable subject to satisfactory performance and functional requirements.
