JHTET 2026 Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Age Calculation Date: 01 August 2026
  • Maximum Age: As prescribed under the applicable Jharkhand Government service age rules.
  • Eligible working para-teachers may receive upper-age relaxation equal to their contractual service period, subject to a maximum age of 58 years.
  • The notification also provides one-time upper-age relaxation because of the gap between the 2016 and 2026 examinations.
Candidates should check their category-wise maximum age and relaxation directly in the official notification before applying.

JHTET Paper 1 Eligibility – Classes 1 to 5

A candidate should fulfil any one of the following qualification combinations:

  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with applicable NCTE regulations.
  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education.
  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education or Special Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

SC, ST, PVGT, BC-I, BC-II and PwD candidates may receive relaxation of 5 percentage points in the prescribed minimum educational marks, as applicable under the rules.

JHTET Paper 2 Eligibility – Classes 6 to 8

A candidate should fulfil any one of the following qualification combinations:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in B.Ed., L.T. or Shiksha Shastri.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 45% marks and B.Ed. according to applicable NCTE regulations.
  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.El.Ed.
  • Senior Secondary or 10+2 with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 4-year B.A.Ed., B.Sc.Ed. or B.A./B.Sc.Ed. programme.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks and B.Ed. in Special Education.
  • Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks and a 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. programme, wherever applicable.
Final-year teacher-training candidates may be permitted subject to the conditions mentioned in the official rules. They may be required to submit their verified final marksheet within the period prescribed by JAC.
